Adjustable lap band surgery can be a new lease on life for the morbidly obese. Lap band surgery has grown in popularity since its approval by the FDA in 2001. This surgery is mildly invasive and you most likely will be back to work in a week or less.

You must understand that this surgery is a tool and it will still be up to you to do the next right thing. Before I had my surgery, I was required to take several classes on healthy eating and exercise. I was also required to undergo a psychiatric evaluation and counseling sessions. I highly believe all these things are necessary, as well as, some type of after care. Many bariatric surgery facilities offer support groups to help patients deal with the issues that caused them to gain the weight in the first place.

Most people understand that when have adjustable lap band surgery they will lose a lot of weight and it will come off quickly, but the stomach is a muscle and it will stretch. Eventually, you will be able to eat more food at one meal. If you do not learn to eat properly and control your portions, there is the potential that you will gain the weight back. There are people out there that have gained the weight back.

When I say adjustable lap band surgery is a tool, I am saying that it will help get you to a healthy weight, but staying at that weight is up to you. It will take work, because lap band surgery does not cause the sensitivity to foods the way the RNY, the reconstructive form of gastric bypass surgery does. Adjustable lap band surgery is just one very small part of losing the weight. It is the maintenance that most people struggle. Set yourself up for success by surrounding yourself with the necessary support tools. Adjustable lap band surgery can give you a new lease on life, but keeping that new life will be up to you.
